Wahlmeier's magic continues at Walnut Bowl

Reigning 5A state champion Kaylin Wahlmeier earned medalist honors (661, 199-247-215) to spark Great Bend’s girls past Dodge City 13-0 in Thursday’s Western Athletic Conference dual match at Walnut Bowl. The Panthers are the defending 5A state champions and WAC champions.

Wahlmeier tied her high series (661) at Dodge City and was shy of her season high game (252). Wahlmeier recorded seven strikes in her 247 game.

"It was nice to step up my game after the last couple of meets," Wahlmeier said. "It's been tough. I've had a few bumps in the road with back-to-back meets, and people are tired with three meets in four days. If you mark every frame with no opens, you're guaranteed a 200 game."

Panther Zoey Mayberry (554) placed runner-up and Emilee Nelson (524) finished third. The Panthers rolled to three consecutive series games averaging 186.

The Panthers cruised to four easy Baker wins, by an average margin of 69.5 pins.

"I'm always happy with the girls," said Great Bend coach David Feldbauer. Zoey Mayberry, Emilee Nelson and Paige Heine all bowled consistent today. Emery Meza helped us in the third game. They all worked together."

Dodge City’s boys dominated the Panthers 11-2. Red Demon medalist Josiah Ridgway (599, 197-178-234) edged teammate Ethan Pogue (598) by one pin.

Great Bend’s top finisher was fifth-place Daegan Miller (523 (143-178-202). Great Bend rallied to split the four Baker games, winning 165-160 and 162-150 to earn two points.

"We're going to keep building," Feldbauer said. "There were decent scores and the guys are improving."
