Three Panthers earn first-team honors

Great Bend’s centerfielder/pitcher Carson Umphres, first baseman Ian Premer and third baseman Trenton Kern earned first-team All-Western Athletic Conference baseball honors.

Umphres (.400; 6-3, 1.94) struck out 69 batters in 572/3 innings. Premer (.474) led the Panthers in batting average. Kern (.369) was steady at third base.

Panther shortstop J.J. Grove (.337) was a defensive wizard. P/OF Koehn Ribordy (.329; 2-0, 7.38 ERA) was a solid two-way player. Rightfielder/pitcher Daxton Minton (.313; 2-0, 2.00 ERA) led the Panthers in earned run average.

Great Bend (18-9, 6-2 WAC) closed out the season with a 5-4 extra-inning loss to Salina South at the 5A regional. Hays High swept the Panthers 5-4 and 4-0 for the WAC baseball title.
