Saturday's final tournament scores

HOLCOMB GIRLS 44, LARNED 35 (1ST) — Holcomb edged Larned 44-35 for the Gene Keady Basketball Classic championship.

The Longhorns raced out to a 17-9 first-quarter lead over cold-shooting Larned. Larned closed the margin to one point but a couple of baskets by Isabella Galliart extended the margin back to six and Holcomb held off the Larned comeback with free throws as they made 17 of 27 in the game. Holcomb led 26-22 after three quarters.

Isabella and Delilah Galliart each scored 10 points to pace Holcomb while Halie Jones and Malia Ruda each scored 7. Jones played a strong floor game, controlling the offense for Holcomb.

Larned was paced by Tournament MVP Jadyn Crosby’s 15 points while Cassidy Wachs had 7 and Lauren Sleder 5. Larned was plagued by cold shooting as they made only 10 of 36 shots for 27%.

The Lady Indians defeated Hoisington 55-46 on Friday evening in semifinal action of the Keady Classic Tournament.

HOISINGTON 61, BUCKLIN 55 (3RD) — Hoisington's Kelsi Maier played her best game with a 16-point effort that keyed a 61-55 third-place victory over Bucklin in the Keady Basketball Classic. Marley Bittel (13) and Tianna Lutters (12) scored in double figures.

Bucklin sliced a 20-point lead to 56-55 when Kirk missed a shot for the lead. Addi Hanzlick and Brynn Tarlton each converted a pair of free throws and Maier added one free throw to score the final five points.

The Cardinals (2-2) build a 32-12 lead before Bucklin rallied behind Kirk (18), Evans (13) and Bowman (12).

HOISINGTON 55, ST. JOHN 39 (3RD) —Hoisington's red-hot Mason Martin drilled five 3-pointers and scored 25 points to spark the Cardinals past St. John 55-39 in Saturday's Keady Classic third-place game. Martin scored 15 second-half points.

The Cardinals (2-2) led 10-0 as the Tigers committed 10 first-quarter turnovers and ended with 20 turnovers. The Cardinals outscored the Tigers 21-6 on 3-pointers.

Jason Robinson scored eight points and keyed a strong defensive effort.

"Jason's our best athlete, a high-energy guy who can drive to the basket," said Hoisington coach Kyle Haxton. "We came out ready to play in the first quarter."

St. John (2-2) was paced by Braxton Alpers with 14 points and Emmett Delp added eight points, six below his average.

LARNED 41, NICKERSON 39 (5TH) — Larned rallied from a double-digit deficit to shock Nickerson in the fifth-place game.

Nickerson had created a 24-13 halftime edge and maintained that lead through the third quarter when Larned caught fire behind Carson Shaver, Kylier Greene and Carter Crosby. Nickerson’s Riley Brawner had dominated play in the game up to that point with a dazzling display of all-around play. He finished with a game-high 22 points.

Both teams had a chance to make things more comfortable for themselves at the free throw line but neither could take advantage. Nickerson made just 4 of 11 free throws while Larned was 6 of 20.

Nickerson's Brawner led with his 22 points while Garrett Crossman added 6, Alex King 5 and Rashawn Walker and Linn each scored 4. For Larned Shaver’s 14 led the way while Kylier Greene came off the bench to add 9 while Carter Crosby had 8. Tristan Regan posted 5, Andres Martinez 3 and Deacon Martin 2.
