Area teams qualify athletes for Class 3-1A state tennis tournament

WAKEENEY — The Ellinwood High School girls’ tennis team qualified both doubles teams for the Class 3-1A state tournament, which sill be held on Friday and Saturday at Pratt.
Ellinwood finished third as a team with eight points.
Central Plains won the regional title with 13 points.
Rachel Doll and Danae Patten finished 3-1 during the two-day regional tourney at Wakeeney, seizing third place.
Mikayla Monday and Katie Shafer also went 3-1, losing in an earlier round and scraping back for fifth place.
Liz Standlee finished 1-2 and Maddie Shafer went 0-1 in singles competition.

Hoisington singles player Besa Bwalya won a regional title at Wakeeney, sweeping the singles competition.
Bwalya went 4-0 as the Lady Cardinals finished second with 11 points.
Deiah Curtis finished fourth in singles, going 2-2.
Jessica Schauf and Melissa Stout went 0-1 in doubles competition, and as did teammates Kylie Broeder and Emily Hammond.
