WICHITA — Great Bend Panther Kaiden Esfeld (16:01.78) ran his fastest time of the season to capture the boys division at Saturday’s Wichita State Cross Country Invitational.
Great Bend’s highly-ranked girls cross country team placed runner-up (68 points) to No. 4 6A state-ranked Washburn Rural (53). The Panthers featured a trio of top 10 finishers – seventh place Emilia Diaz (19:40.01), eighth-place Diane Alvarez (19:48.71) and 10th-place Marissa Boone (19:56.11).
“Our team time average was faster than the time Emilia Diaz ran at the state meet last year,” said Great Bend coach Lyles Lashley. “Kaiden Esfeld ran the sixth fastest high school time on that course.”
