Panther volleyball sweeps two matches

Great Bend's volleyball team stayed hot with a sweep over Goddard High 25-17, 25-15 and Hutchinson High 25-11, 25-19 in Thursday's home matches. Hutchinson downed Goddard 25-16, 25-17 in the third match.

Great Bend (12-2) was sparked by dominant hitting by Cassie Ellegood in both matches. Against Goddard, stats included Kya Behr, 16 assists, 6 digs; Cassie Ellegood, 11 serves, 7 winners; Kimmy Hofflinger, 11 serves, 5 digs, 5 serves received; Ava Kaiser, 9 serves received; Alex Mayers, 8 serves; Mikalya Minton, 4 digs; and Kara Feist, 4 winners. 

"I was proud how our team rallied together and played. That's definitely the best we’ve played so far," said Great Bend volleyball coach Shelly Duvall. "You could tell that all of the pieces were together, and it was a well oiled machine."

Against Hutchinson High, Cassie Ellegood led the way with 9 winners and 3 blocks. Other stats showed Behr, 19 assists, 12 serves, 10 digs; Kaiser, 13 serves received, 12 digs; Mayers, 11 serves, 4 winners; Micah Ellegood, 4 winners.

"Our server receive and passing definitely paved the way for us to do all of the fun stuff in the front row," Duvall said. "The gym had a lot of energy which definitely hyped up our girls. There’s something to be said about Great Bend Panther fans!
