Panther girls win WAC showdown

GARDEN CITY – Great Bend medalist Kaylin Wahlmeier (596, 221-183-192) keyed a crucial 9-4 victory over Garden City Tuesday for a key Western Athletic Conference bowling victory. Wahlmeier is the reigning WAC Player of the Year.

The Panther girls won two of three series games 722-676 and 738-636 and split the four Baker games to win the overall pin count 2,724 to 2,633.

Panther Emilee Nelson (513) placed third and Zoey Mayberry (494) finished fourth.

Reigning WAC champion Garden City swept the top six spots to power past the Panther boys 12-1. Garden City swept three series games by an average pin-count of 308. Garden City medalist Bo Roth (748, 238-276-234) dialed up three consecutive hot games.

Great Bend’s Brantley Vsetecka (517) led the Panthers with a seventh-place finish. Great Bend surprised the Buffaloes 195-189 in the third Baker game to salvage a point.
