Oilers sweep Macksville Mustangs

CENTRAL PLAINS GIRLS 34, MACKSVILLE 29 – Rematches are always tough. The Central Plains girls rallied from a deficit for a hard-fought 34-29 Central Prairie league basketball victory over Macksville. The Oilers (9-3, 2-0 CPL) beat the Mustangs 41-30 in last week’s third-place showdown at the St. John Midwinter Classic.

The Oilers and Mustangs are evenly matched, making for a back and forth contest the whole night. Macksville held a 1-point halftime lead.

Central Plains Addy Ogle scored 13 points and Grace Lamatsch added 12 points. Macksville’s All-CPL Mayce Russell scored 15 points for the Mustangs (7-5, 2-1 CPL).

“The great thing about basketball is that you play hard for all four quarters,” said head coach Pat Stiles.

The Oilers have won 11 consecutive Central Prairie League basketball titles.

CENTRAL PLAINS 50, MACKSVILLE 40 –  A 14-point fourth quarter sparked the Central Plains Oilers past Macksville 50-40 in a Central Prairie League showdown for first place.

The Oilers (9-3, 2-0 CPL) placed Peyton Ryan (13), Aiden Hekele (12) and Brodie Crites (10) in double figures.

Macksville’s leading scorer Diego Esparza contributed 20 points for the Mustangs (8-4, 2-1 CPL). Hector Gomez (9) and Kendall Grippin (7) also contributed. Grippin grabbed six rebounds. Grippin and Ty Clawson each had two assists.

Macksville led after the first quarter. Central Plains led at half. Macksville led by one point after third quarter. The Oilers closed out the game strong with a 14 point fourth quarter.

“This is a great league win,” said Oiler coach Michael Ryan.

The Oilers travel to Otis Bison Tuesday.
