CENTRAL PLAINS 51, LARNED 21 (3RD) — Central Plains all-tournament Peyton Ryan scored 16 points and Aiden Hekele (13) and Brodie Crites (13) scored in double figures to spark the Oilers to third place with a 51-21 victory. The Oilers (8-2) outscored Larned 27-6 after halftime.

The Oilers extended an 8-6 lead to 24-15 at halftime.

Central Plains coach Michael Ryan was pleased with Saturday’s performance heading to games against Sterling and Macksville this week.

“These guys put in a ton of time and work hard every day," Ryan said. "It’s nice to see it pay off.”

Larned's all-tournament Carson Shaver scored eight points.

The Indians struggled to solve the 2-3 zone defense exhibited by the Oilers. Larned was outscored 43-15 after the first quarter. Meanwhile, Central Plains was picking apart the Larned man-to-man defense for a number of easy inside baskets.

The efficient Oiler offense made 18 of 31 field goals (59%) and converted 10 free throws. Larned converted 9 of 26 field goals (35%). The Indians made 3 of 12 shots in the second half.  Larned missed four free throws.

“We were just impatient with our offense,' said Larned coach Luke Steinlage. "Against their zone defense, we needed to be selective and patient. Give Central Plains credit, they were athletic and defended us well. Some of that was our own fault.”
