MACKSVILLE BOYS 71, SOUTH GRAY 58

DODGE CITY – Macksville’s Kody Mead scored 22 points as the Mustangs rolled past South Gray, last year’s 1A-Division 2 state basketball champion, in Saturday’s 1A Dodge City substate.

The Mustangs (18-6) advance to 1A state at Dodge City with No. 1 Central Plains (24-0) and state-ranked St. John (20-4). 

Macksville’s Karson Waters scored 18 points and Kaleb Lickiss added 14 points. The Mustangs outscored the Rebels 23-14 in the fourth quarter. Mead scored 12 points and the Mustangs converted 9 of 10 free throws.

South Gray (22-2) was led by Aaron Skidmore with 17 points and Clifton Miller added 16 points.

DODGE CITY – Macksville’s Kaleb Lickiss scored 22 points as the Mustangs scored 40 second-half points for a 68-53 victory over South Central High School in Friday’s 1A Dodge City basketball semifinal.

Macksville (17-6) trailed 29-28 at halftime.  Kody Mead scored 14 points and Karson Waters added 10 points.

South Central’s Owen Alexander scored 23 points, but left the game in the third quarter with a knee injury.
