Kinsley/Macksville wins baseball doubleheader

KINSLEY — Nine was Kinsley/Macksville's lucky number as the Coyotes (3-1) swept Plainville 9-2 and 9-6 in Monday's baseball doubleheader.

KINSLEY 9, PLAINVILLE 2 (G1) — Kinsley pitcher Kendall Grippin (2-0) struck out seven batters to spark a 9-2 opening victory over Plainville. Grippin has 16 strikeouts in eight innings, yielding one earned run.

Devin Murrow led Kinsley's offense with three RBI.  

Kinsley's Woodrow Lancaster scored on Anthony Meza's sacrifice fly and Joshua Stuckey scored on a first-inning error for a 2-0 lead.

Murrow's single scored Stuckey and Lancaster to ignite a 5-run third inning. Grippin scored on a bases-loaded walk. Esparza's single scored Murrow and Joey Prieto for a 7-1 lead.

Lancaster scored on Meza's fourth-inning groundout for an 8-2 lead. Stuckey scored on Murrow's sixth-inning groundout.

KINSLEY 9, PLAINVILLE 6 (G2) — Kinsley rallied from a 6-4 deficit with five runs in the final two at-bats. Lancaster's 2-run single scored Parker Burr and Esparza after two hit batters and a walk. Stuckey scored on a double steal for a 9-6 lead.

The Coyotes tied the score 6-6 after Stuckey scored on a double steal and Lancaster scored on Meza's fifth-inning single.

Lancaster and Stuckey delivered sacrifice flies for a 2-0 lead. Grippin scored on a passed ball after tripling home Lancaster for a 4-0 lead.

Two errors, two walks and a hit batter led to Plainville's 6-run fifth inning. Bethel and Braylon Becker delivered RBIs for a 6-4 lead.

Panther softball outlasts Pratt 16-11

PANTHERS 16, PRATT 11 (G1) — DeShawnna Bryant drilled a game-clinching 3-run homer after the Panthers' 12-run lead was sliced to 13-11. Bryant drove home four runs with three hits and three runs scored. The Panthers led 12-0 on a 9-run second inning and a 3-run third frame. Callie Umphres drove home four runs with three hits. Kya Behr plated three runs with a pair of singles. Kamryn Koelsch, Alyssa McCauley, Denver Ringo and Chayla Prendergast drove in runs. After three shutout innings, Pratt roughed up starter McCauley for seven earned runs and a trio of homers. Pratt's Copus ripped a 2-run and 3-run homer. Sydney Riley hit a 2-run homer.
