Great Bend Braves earn comeback victory

The Great Bend Braves (4-10) played their best baseball of the summer to sweep the Buhler Nationals by scores of 10-3 and 5-4 Monday.

BRAVES 5, BUHLER 4 (G2) – The Braves capped a rally from a 4-0 deficit to trigger a wild celebration at the Great Bend Sports Complex. Austin Gilbert scored the game-winning run when Colin Saffa’s 2-out fly ball was misplayed in the seventh inning 

Braves reliever Peyden Oelger escaped a bases-loaded, no-out situation to preserve a 4-4 tie. Brayden Henry was out at home on a forceout. Oelger struck out Chase Beals and Gio Walters to strand three baserunners.

Buhler's Carter Jones scored on Julian Morrison's first-inning single. Luke Holmberg and Walters scored on a Jones fourth-inning single. Walters scored on Zac Friesen's single for a 4-0 lead.

Carson Poe scored on Peyden Oelger’s single and Jaxon Wondra scored on Slade Mohr’s fourth inning single for a 4-2 score. Saffa scored on a Wondra single and Gilbert scored on a fifth-inning balk for a 4-4 tie.

BRAVES 10, BUHLER 2 (G1) – Braves Carson Poe and Oelger each drove home two runs. Wondra, Mohr and Saffa each drove in one run. Oelger and Gilbert each delivered two hits. Gilbert earned the victory.
