TOPEKA — The Pittsburg Patriots downed Great Bend 1-0 to hand the Legion Braves a loss at state for the second consecutive year. The Braves (15-10) would have to win six consecutive games to win the AAA state championship. Pittsburg pitchers Quinten Fears and Carson Nickelson combined for 16 strikeouts. Braves pitcher Slade Mohr threw six shutout innings. Pittsburg's Indica Holloway singled home Jayden Brown in the seventh inning after a hit-by-pitch, stolen base and sacrifice bunt. Mohr and Trenton Kern singled for the Braves two hits. The Braves stranded two baserunners in the second, third and fourth innings. The Braves batted 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position and struck out 16 times out of 21 outs in their first baseball game in 15 days.
