Eagles win regional opener
ELLINWOOD – Ellinwood pitcher Bryan Jaske (3-3) struck out seven batters and drove in three runs to spark the Eagles past Hutchinson Trinity 14-5 in Friday’s 2-1A baseball regional opener. The Eagles (12-11) play Hays Thomas More Prep (17-7) in a May 16 semifinal at Hays.
EAGLES 14, CELTICS 5 – Jaske required 107 pitches with eight walks. Trace Tudor worked 22/3 scoreless innings with 46 pitches. Both pitchers will be free to throw next week.
Jaske scored three runs with three hits. Cohen Gunn, Campbell Coleman and Banks Jacobs each drove in two runs. Cooper Hosman, Chase Gibson and Cooper Gunn also drove in runs.
The Eagles stretched a 7-5 lead to 14-5 with a 7-run sixth inning. Gavin Judy drove in two runs and Sam Suter-Tan, Blake Griffith and Kaid McElguinn drove in runs.
