HOISINGTON GIRLS 51, HESSTON 43 – Hoisington’s Kylee Hahn (15), Jordyn Boxberger (12) and Ellie Crawford (10) scored in double figures as the Cardinals surprised Hesston 51-43 in Tuesday’s Central Kansas League basketball game. Hahn enjoyed the best basketball game of her career.
“Kylee played big inside. They couldn’t guard Kylee off the dribble when they pressured,” said Hoisington coach Mandy Mason.
The Cardinals roared to a 7-0 lead and led from start-to-finish. After Hesston tied it 27-27 on Abby Proctor’s 3-pointer, Addy Mason drilled a banked 3-pointer and Mallory Mooney made back-to-back baskets for a 34-27 lead.
After Hesston’s Kendal Brueggen scored 14 fourth-quarter points, the Cardinals sealed the victory. Boxberger and Hahn each converted a pair of free throws and Crawford made the clinching basket. Brueggen scored a career high 26 points.
“We’ve never beaten Hesston on their homecourt,” Mason said. “We played basketball the way we’re capable of playing. They put on a show tonight. We stepped up and hit big free throws. We stayed composed. I’m proud of our kids tonight.”
Hoisington (8-6, 1-2 CKL) played its best basketball of the season with a patient offense that worked the basketball for quality shots. The Cardinals mixed and matched zone defenses to keep Hesston’s offense off balance.

HESSTON 53, HOISINGTON 37 – Hoisington’s aggressive defense kept the Cardinals within range before No. 3 state-ranked Hesston pulled away for a 53-37 Central Kansas League basketball victory Tuesday.
Tony Moore led the Cardinals (6-8, 1-2 CKL) with seven points. A.J. Aylward and Jason Robinson chipped in six points apiece. Hoisington (6-8, 1-2) hung within 32-22 at halftime.
Jake Proctor scored 20 points for the two-time defending 3A state champions. Adrian Hernandez added 12 points.
“Hesston didn’t shoot it very well. I give credit to our defense,” said Hoisington coach Kyle Haxton. “We’re tough and play tough defense. We gave up some offensive rebounds. We didn’t shoot it at a high percentage. You’ve got to score points. We’ve got an unselfish group that will move forward.”
