Cougar, Mustang finish first, second

 

NESS CITY – Otis-Bison’s superb Destiny Mitchell (22:20.5) turned the tables on reigning Central Prairie League champion Madison Butler (22:44) to capture medalist honors at Thursday’s CPL cross country meet. Butler is a three-time Central Prairie runner-up.

Otis-Bison’s Ava Kenyon (24:14.5) placed seventh and Ellinwood’s Allison Ricker (24:57.5) placed 10th.

Ness City’s Broxton Gall (18:30.7) edged St. John’s Quade Smith (18:38.71) for medalist honors.

Other top 10 medalists were Ellinwood’s third-place Asher Miller, 18:52.6; Central Plains’ seventh-place Peyton Ryan, 19:31.4; and Ellinwood’s duo of ninth-place Chase Gibson (19:42.6) and 10th-place Cole Ringwald, Ellinwood, 19:43.8.

Ness City’s girls (14) and Ness City’s boys (20) swept the Central Prairie team titles. Macksville’s girls (31) and Ellinwood’s boys (32) were CPL runners-up.

Larned softball wins opener LARNED — Larned's softball team scored 39 runs to dominate the Ellis Railroaders 21-4 and 18-5 in Friday's doubleheader. LARNED 21, ELLIS 4 (G1) — Larned's Brooks Simmons tripled and drove home a trio of runs. Driving home a pair of runs were Eowyn Hedding, Maya Wilson, Teagan Walker, Jadyn Crosby and Jillian Hagerman. Hagerman and Karley Lemuz each doubled. Lemuz (2-0) pitched five innings to earn the victory. The Indians took advantage of nine walks, seven errors, six wild pitches and two hit batters. Ellis' Maleah Vine drove home two runs. Rylan Aschenbrenner had an RBI LARNED 18, ELLIS 5 (G2) — Larned's Hedding doubled and drove in three runs. Walker and Hagerman each drove in two runs. Driving home one run were Lemuz, Brooke Simmins, Crosby, Ivy Hope and Gillian Smith. Crosby (2-0) pitched five innings to earn the victory. Railroader Vine drove home two runs.
