Central Plains girls earn 11th straight Central Prairie title

CENTRAL PLAINS GIRLS 57, KINSLEY 15 – The Central Plains girls completed their eight consecutive unbeaten Central Prairie League basketball title with a 57-15 victory over Kinsley that extends the Oilers’ streak to 64 straight league wins. The Oilers (16-3, 8-0 CPL) has won 11 consecutive Central Prairie titles with an 87-1 record with the lone loss to Ellinwood in 2015.

Brynna Hammke (18), Kyla Metro (15) and Marilyn Soeken (11) scored in double figures. The Oilers compete in the Little Rive substate that features defending state champions Pretty Prairie and 8-time champion Central Plains.

CENTRAL PLAINS 44, KINSLEY 37 – Central Plains converted 26 of 29 free throws and didn’t hit a 3-pointer in a wild 44-37 Central Prairie League victory over Kinsley.

Oilers Peyton Ryan and Hunter Klima each scored 13 points and combined to convert 20 of 20 free throws.

Kinsley’s Brokar scored 14 points.

PAWNEE HEIGHTS 54, SATANTA 52 – Alec Carlson was spectacular with 31 points, 20 in the fourth quarter to spark a 54-52 Southern Plains Iroquois basketball victory over Satanta. The Tigers outscored Satanta 30-11 in the fourth quarter. The Tigers (14-5) are the second seed in the Ransom basketball substate. Davin Hamby added 12 points.

ELLINWOOD 89, OTIS-BISON 33 – Ellinwood all-stater Britton Dutton joined an elite club with a 43-point effort that vaulted him over 2,000 career point barrier. Dutton converted 18 field goals and three free throws in the 89-33 Central Prairie League victory that clinched the Eagles’ third consecutive title.

HOISINGTON 61, NICKERSON 43 – Hoisington’s one/two tandem of Tony Moore (23) and Leyton Haxton (20) combined for 43 points in a 61-43 Central Kansas League basketball victory. Haxton hit five 3-pointers, grabbed 11 rebounds and dished out four assists. More had four steals.

Freshman Riley Brawner led Nickerson with 10 points.

The Cardinals (10-9, 5-3 CKL) trailed 9-2, but outplayed the Panthers the rest of the night.

HOISINGTON GIRLS 45, NICKERSON 22 – Hoisington showed off excellent balance as Jordyn Boxberger (11) and Kylee Hahn (10) scored in double figures to roll past Nickerson in Friday’s Central Kansas League basketball game. The Cardinals (127, 5-3 CKL) had nine players hit the scoring column.

Destiny Ponds scored 12 points and sparked the Panthers, who played without its best players Kalyse Abernathy and Ava Jones, sidelined for the season.
