SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — St. John and Kansas State standout Dean Wade earned Player of the Night honors when the Cleveland Cavaliers defeated the Golden State Warriors 110-94 Monday night.
Wade posted a double/double with a career high 13 rebounds, 10 points and two blocked shots.
Cleveland (29-4) owns the best record in the NBA.
"In the first half we got open looks and didn't knock them down," Wade said. "In the second-half, we came out and played our game and made shots. We came out with energy especially on the defensive end. We pushed the tempo and tried to get open 3s. We established our defensive end and that led to our transition game."
Wade invested time improving his shooting skill and strength in the off-season.
"I was mostly in the weight room, and working on deeper range 3s off the move and off the dribble," he said. "I tried to get out of my comfort zone offensively going into the season. That benefited me a lot working on my strength and conditioning. That's helped my legs especially on away trips. It's nice that I can fall back on conditioning during the summer and my 3-point shots."
Wade credits Cleveland Cavaliers coach Kenny Adkinson for his confidence.
"Coach believes in me more than I believe in myself sometimes," Wade said. "He's been amazing. He stresses not passing up open shots . He encourages me with everything I do. I make mistakes out there, but he believes in me. As long as I'm doing things full speed. You don't want to compound mistakes and forget about them on the next possession. I've an amazing relationship with coach Adkinson. He's an amazing person and a better coach."
