Cardinal softball wins pair

HOISINGTON — The Hoisington/Central Plains softball team rolled past Nickerson 17-2 and 18-3 to sweep the Central Kansas League doubleheader Tuesday. 

The Cardinals (6-0, 2-0 CKL) have scored 93 runs in six games. Pitchers Ellie Crawford (3-0) and Brynn Tarlton (3-0) stayed unbeaten. The Cardinals play Hays Thomas More Prep Friday.

CARDINALS 17, NICKERSON 2 (G1) — Hoisington's Crawford drove in four runs. Marly Brewer drove in three runs. The Cardinals (6-0, 2-0 CKL) had 10 extra-base hits, five doubles, three triples and two homers.

In a 13-run first inning, Crawford drilled a 3-run homer and Brewer ripped a 2-run homer and RBI double. Brynn Tarlton hit a pair of RBI triples and Kylie Kempke tripled home a run. Claire Crutcher hit a 2-run double. Reese Aylward added an RBI single.

Crawford, Gabby Reif and Mackenzie Foulger added runs batted home for a run-rule victory.

Nickerson's Shalie Powell and Brylee Squires drove in runs for the Panthers. Powell and Taylor Huggard each delivered two hits.

CARDINALS 18, NICKERSON 3 (G2) —  Hoisington's Kempke, Reif and Tarlton each delivered three RBI. The Cardinals hit eight extra-base hits, three doubles, three triples and two homers. 

Brewer's home started a 6-run first inning. Reif and Tarlton added RBI hits. Reif hit a 2-run double, Sneath hit a 2-run single and Foulger added an RBI in a 5-run second inning. In a 5-run third inning, Tarlton hit a 2-run triple and Kempke and Crawford added run-scoring hits.

Kempke's 2-run homer ended the game on the 15-run rule.

Nickerson's  Kaitlyn Kreutzer, Huggard and K Hathaway each drove in runs. Lily Chapman, Mayci Terhune and Kreutzer singled.

Tiger Carlson wins three events at Kinsley

KINSLEY —Pawnee Heights Tiger Brady Carlson swept first place in the high jump (5-8), long jump (19-01/2) and triple jump (41-51/2) at the Kinsley track meet. The Tigers placed runner-up in the 400-meter relay (56.16). Macksville's Hector Gomez won the 100 meters (11.51) and placed second in the 200 (25.23). Pawnee Heights Tiger Abby Hands won the discus (112-8) and javelin (97-10) and placed second in the shot put (33-111/2). Other first-place winners were Macksville's Diana Ibarra, 100 (13.79) and 200 (30.31). Runner-up medals were earned by Macksville's Ava Chadd, long jump (14-93/4) and Pawnee Heights' Abby Pelton, triple jump (30-71/2).
