HOISINGTON 43, PRATT 42 (1ST )—Hoisington's all-tournament Mason Martin converted the game-winning free throw as the Cardinals upset No. 1 seeded Pratt 43-42 to capture the Cardinals eighth Hoisington Winter Jam basketball championship. Pratt's Caleb Strong missed the potential game-winner against strong Cardinal defense.

Hoisington's all-tournament Rhen Galla scored 14 points and Martin added 12 points, keyed by a pair of 3-pointers that tied the score at 33. The Cardinals led 42-37, but Pratt's Kyler Barker scored and Hudson Titus hit a tying 3-pointer. 

"The guys played with relentless effort," said Hoisington coach Kyle Haxton. "We've battled tough basketball teams. I couldn't ask for better effort. They play for each other. It's a ton of fight."

Haxton praised Galla for steady improvement and Preston Merlau for his toughness.

"Rhen has made more progress from freshman to senior year than any player I've coached through a lot of hard work," Haxton said. "Merlau is an athletic player who plays tough."

Pratt's all-tournament Rylie Morrell scored 17 points and all-tournament Caleb Strong added nine points.

ELLINWOOD 57, MINNEAPOLIS 54 (5TH) — Ellinwood's all-tournament Landon Simpson scored 30 points with 13 field goals to spark a 57-54 victory over Minneapolis for third place in the Hoisington Winter Jam. Tavian McCaffrey added 10 points.

Owen Just led the Lions with 20 points.

LA CROSSE 57, OTIS-BISON 48 (7TH)— La Crosse standout Lee Holopirek busted loose for 20 points and Rush added 15 points as the Leopards edged past Central Prairie League rival Otis-Bison 57-48 in the Hoisington Winter Jam seventh-place basketball game.

Otis-Bison's Jake Hoopingarner scored 13 points and Logan Maier chipped in 10 points.

HOISINGTON 53, ELLSWORTH 28 — Hoisington Cardinals Rhen Galla and Mason Martin each scored 15 points to spark a dominating 53-28 Winter Jam basketball victory over Ellsworth, last year's champion.

The Cardinals led 32-20 at halftime and outscored Ellsworth 16-1 in the third quarter. Hoisington coach Kyle Haxton coached with Ellsworth coach.

"We were solid offensively and shot the ball effectively. Our defensive rotations were better after halftime, limiting Ellsworth to eight points. We were better defensively when Kamden Tarlton is on the court. We're working to a 32-minute game."

ELLSWORTH 39, ELLINWOOD 38 — Ellsworth's Jace Thomasson banked home a free throw with 0.3 seconds left to spoil Ellinwood's hustling comeback from an 11-point deficit.

Ellinwood's Landon Simpson converted a 3-pointer for a 38-38 tie. Thomasson was fouled after Dax Leiker and Cooper McGowan missed field goals.

Ellsworth's Tucker Goss scored 19 points. Simpson scored 10 points and Campbell Coleman added eight points.

HOISINGTON 52, LA CROSSE 19 — Defensive stopped Jason Robinson limited La Crosse's leading scorer Lee Holopirek to five points, 13 below his average as the Cardinals roared past the Leopards 52-19 with a dominating performance.

Mason Martin scored 15 points and Rhen Galla added 13 points. Kamden Tarlton scored eight points with a solid defensive effort.
