GARDNER/DESOTO — When the weekend started, Great Bend's baseball team was ranked 10th in Class 5A.

Great Bend was outscored 34-5 by Blue Valley Southwest, Spring Hill and Joplin, Mo. in a trio of road games at Gardner and DeSoto.

The Panthers (9-6) saw their top two pitchers Daxton Minton and Jaxon Wondra struggle and dropped from a No. 3 seed to seventh best record in the 5A West.

BLUE VALLEY SW 17, PANTHERS 2 — No. 5 state-ranked Blue Valley Southwest (12-5) had its first six batters reached base in a 5-run first inning.

Panther pitchers yielded 17 runs, 12 hits, seven walks and three hit batters to rout Great Bend 17-2 Friday.

Koehn Ribordy scored on Trenton Kern's sacrifice fly for Great Bend. Kaito Richter scored on a passed ball.

Southwest's Coen Lilly doubled twice and drove home five runs. Kellan Lang, Brayden Shannon and Charlie Foote each delivered two hits and three RBI.

Southwest pitcher Gathen Shaner permitted two earned runs with three strikeouts.

Last year's state runner-up Great Bend beat Blue Valley Southwest 4-1 to reach the 5A state title game.

SPRING HILL 10, PANTHERS 1 — Great Bend's best starter Minton (0-1, 3.25 ERA) was tagged for seven first-inning runs, yielding six hits with two hit batters and an error. Minton has 33 strikeouts in 232/3 innings.

Spring Hill's Keaton Neal and Hunter Hall hit homers. Spring Hill's Brody VanHouton recorded six shutouts.

Ribordy scored the Panthers fourth-inning run when Rafael Chavez grounded into a double play. Minton, Ribordy, Jaxon Wondra and Trenton Kern singled.

JOPLIN, MO. 7, PANTHERS 2 — Joplin (11-9) scored six runs, three earned, off hard-throwing Jaxon Wondra (4-1, 3.05 ERA) who permitted nine hits in 31/3 innings.' Wondra has 30 strikeouts in 202/3 innings.

Joplin's Layne Royle, Hudson Ledford, David Bhend, Daniel Rose, Jaxon Landis and Hayden Wolf drove home runs.

Council doubled and scored on Koehn Ribordy's third inning fly ball. Minton scored on an error.

The Panthers failed to score following leadoff doubles by Minton (first inning) and Trenton Kern (sixth inning).
