MARION —Ellinwood medalist Luke Heinz (78) led the Eagles to first place in the Marion golf substate to qualify for the 2A state golf tournament. Heinz birdied Nos. 8 and 15 with southerly winds blowing 30 to 40 mph.

"Luke Heinz had the round we'd been waiting for shooting a 78," said Ellinwood golf coach Andrew Wittenberg. "Luke had a great day. He was locked in and determined from the start."

Ellinwood (343) counted scores by third-place Austin Brack (85), 10th-place Remi Thomas (88) and 13th-place Keaton Lewis (92).

"Austin Brack continues to improve earning a 3rd place finish.," Wittenberg said. "The Eagle golfers stayed steady in brutal wind conditions to win the regional title."

Thomas birdied Nos. 6 and 12. Brack birdied No. 15. Shinliver birdied No. 6.

The 2A state golf tournament is scheduled May 26-27 at Winfield's Quail Ridge Golf Course
