HAYS — Great Bend's trio of Alec Premer (85), Ethan Somers (85) and Cal Schartz (85) tied for 15th place in Monday's 5A golf substate to qualify for the 5A state golf tournament.

The Panthers (344) placed fourth to miss qualifying as a team. Nash Lindberg (89) placed 24th. Five Panthers carded birdies — Somers (No. 3), Schartz (No. 6), Lindberg (No. 2), Ian Premer (No. 2) and Zack Hart (No. 2).

Hays High's Cale Thompson birdied five holes to earn medalist honors at even-par 71. Hays (313), DeSoto (324) and Goddard Eisenhower (324) are 5A team qualifiers.

The 5A state golf tournament is May 26-27 at Wichita's Tallgrass Country Club.
