HOISINGTON GIRLS 46, BELOIT 33

HOISINGTON — The night was sweet for the Hoisington girls with a hard-fought 46-33 victory over Beloit. It was heartbreak for the Cardinal boys, who lost 54-53 on a last-second field goal.

The Cardinals girls (4-3) shut down Beloit with an aggressive man-to-man defense. Macy Hanzlick led the way with 15 points and several steals for layups. Jordyn Boxberger added eight points. Addy Mason ignited a second-half surge with back-to-back 3-pointers.

Beloit (4-4) upset state-ranked Phillipsburg 51-49 Tuesday night. Peyton Remus scored 13 points to spark the Trojans.

BELOIT 54, HOISINGTON 53

HOISINGTON — By all rights, a blocked shot by Hoisington's Bralen Thompson against Owen Eilert should've sealed a Cardinal upset victory.

But Beloit's Owen Eilert flipped a lob pass to Bryce Beisner for the game-winning shot as time expired for a shocking 54-53 non-league basketball victory. The first half ended the same way as Beloit converted a last-second shot for a 30-29 halftime lead.

The Cardinals' Leyton Haxton converted a 3-pointer against Caleb Burks for a 53-50 lead with 1:35 left. Haxton gave the Cardinals a chance to seal the victory with a late-game steal. But the Cardinals missed two free throws and committed a turnover on their final three possessions.

Beloit's Beisner scored 22 points and Owen Eilert netted 17 points. Hoisington's Bralen Thompson scored 23 points and Leyton Haxton added 16 points as both played brilliant offensively.
