CLAFLIN — The No. 1 ranked 1A Central Plains girls cruised past Ellinwood 63-15 in Tuesday's non-league basketball game. The Oilers (7-0) are seven-time defending state basketball champions.
The Oilers outscored the Eagles 38-8 in the first half keyed by effective trapping halfcourt pressure defense. Madison McGuire (15), Brynna Hammeke (15) and Kassidy Nixon (14) scored in double figures. Ellinwood's Bella Baker scored nine points. Kennedy Behnke contributed six rebounds and three assists. Brittany Simpson had four steals.

The Cougars (3-3) placed Halee Morrison (14), Zoey Schwindt (14), Johanna Baalmann (10) and Lela Kenyon (10) in double figures. Freshman Schwindt and sophomore Kenyon scored career highs.
The Cougars led 35-15 at halftime.
