The No. 15 ranked Barton Cougars converted their first seven shots, six from long range and featured a perfectly balanced offense to coast past the Seward Saints 84-68 in Wednesday's Jayhawk Conference basketball game.
The defending NJCAA national champion Cougars (20-5, 14-5) remain in third place and drop the Saints to 3-20, 2-16 Jayhawk. It marks the 36th Cougar 20-win season.
The Cougars welcome Dodge City (10-14, 7-11) for Hall of Fame Saturday. A 2 p.m. induction ceremony at the Kirkman Center will introduce the inductees after the 5:30 women's game.
Barton featured Fontaine Williams with 16 points and 4 of 6 on 3-pointers. Aris Rodriguez dialed long distance four times for 14 points.
The Cougars had 10 players score points. Barton converted 14 of 25 3-pointers to outscore the Saints 42-27 from long range.
Point guard Keandre Kindell contributed seven points and six assists. Brent Moss added nine points. Eltramon Smith, Jr. contributed eight points and six rebounds.
A 7-0 start after halftime boosted a double-digit advantage. The reserves played the final 13 minutes to expand to a 26-point lead. Eight Cougars contributed to the squad's season high 14 made three-pointers on a second best 56% accuracy. Eleven players contributed at least three points for a balanced box score of output with just two reaching double-figures.
Kiki Parker led the Saints with 18 points and six assists.
