No. 6 Butler Grizzlies edge Cougars, 2-1

A second half rally came up just short Wednesday afternoon at the Cougar Soccer Complex as the Barton Community College women's soccer team's upset bid fell short 2-1 to No. 6 Butler Community College.

Dropping both regular season contests to the Grizzlies, the loss drops the Cougars to 4-4-2 in league play and 6-4-2 overall while Butler remains unbeaten at 9-0-1 in KJCCC play and 9-0-3 on the season.

Barton will look to regroup Saturday evening making the long road trip down to southeast Kansas to face the Red Ravens of Coffeyville Community College in a 5:00 p.m. kickoff.

Butler's Ruby Kilden opened the scoring benefitting from the first half 20-25 mph south wind at the Grizzlies back in shaping a 25-yard kick just underneath the crossbar for a 1-0 lead with 35:04 remaining.

Fourteen minutes later a defensive miscue by the Cougars generated the second and eventual game winning goal for the Grizzlies as leading goal scorer London Ingram converted on a second chance opportunity as keeper Mio Tanaka denied the first shot with the deflection rebound providing a second chance strike.

Having the side of the wind over the final 45-minutes, Barton controlled the possession for the majority of the second half with numerous opportunities.

Outshooting the opposition 10-5 in the second half, Leticia Quadros put Barton on the scoreboard with 11:57 remaining shaping a 35-yard free kick into the jet stream over Butler's netminder Rylie Schiffelbein to cut the deficit in half for the sophomore defender's fourth goal in the last two games.

Ninety seconds later the Cougars' momentum took a hit in having a disadvantage over the final 10:20 competing a player short due to a red card violation.
