HUTCHINSON — Hutchinson Monarch Will Edmunson drilled a grand slam homer and drove home five runs to spark a 10-5 victory over the Great Bend Bat Cats Saturday.

The Bat Cats (22-8, 17-5 Sunflower) led 2-1 when the Monarchs scored five fifth-inning runs against pitcher Tyrus Riley for a 6-2 lead. Hutchinson (9-11, 8-11 Sunflower) entertains the Bat Cats Sunday at Hobart-Detter Field.

Down 6-2, Great Bend missed a golden opportunity with the bases loaded in the seventh inning after Brady Kreutzer and Connor Chavez singled and Robby Bolin walked. Jake Tatom drove home Kreutzer with a groundout. Armani Raygoza singled home Chavez for a 6-4 score, but Bolin misread the clean single to right field and failed to score from second base. Grant Nottlemann and Brady Wilson were retired to end the rally.

Bat Cat catcher Marshall Hale delivered the top defensive plays by throwing out Caleb Cotton and Cooper Harris on attempted steals.

Second baseman Chavez made two dazzling defensive plays. But he missed covering second base on a crucial forceout on Blake Bradford's fifth-inning groundball. It cost the Bat Cats a run when Edmunson hit his grand slam. Riley (3-1) threw four effective innings when six consecutive Monarchs reached base in the fifth inning.

Edmunson singled home Cotton for a 1-0 lead. Raygoza homered and Bolin's single scored Kreutzer for a 2-1 lead. The Monarchs added four runs for a 10-4 lead. Paris Prigden singled home a run. Austin Coyle scored on an eighth-inning error and Cotton and Edmunson scored on  pair of Bryan Bartels wild pitches.

Nottlemann singled home Bolin for the Bat Cats' final run.
