Grizzlies sweep first-place Cougars

EL DORADO — The No. 23 ranked Barton Cougar baseball team led 1-0 Thursday before the Cougars played from behind over the final 15 innings. The Grizzlies scored 30 runs to sweep the doubleheader 16-9 and 14-10 at McDonald Stadium.

Ayden Hadley's two-out top of the first home run for his fourth of the season gifted the Cougars their lone lead of the afternoon as the Grizzlies outhit Barton 28-17 on the day.

Hunter Alvord drove in all three of his runs in game one behind his pair of home runs followed by Kyle Walker's three run producing nightcap fueling six of Barton's 13 RBIs on the afternoon.

Kyle Graves and John Connors joined Alvord and Walker's three hits on the afternoon each finishing 3-for-8 at the plate with two and one RBI respectfully.

Starting pitchers Anthony Treto (2-2) and Antonio Mendez (3-1) suffered the losses as the Cougars utilized 11 different pitchers over  15-innings.

Barton (18-8, 10-4 Jayhawk West) drops into a second-place tie while Butler (17-11, 9-5 Jayhawk West) moves one game out of second place. Barton returns home Saturday to Lawson-Biggs Field to face Butler at 1 p.m.

GRIZZLIES 16, COUGARS 9 (G1) — Butler's Cooper Rasmussen and Breck Romero each homered and drove in three runs to spark an 11-hit outing to beat the Jayhawk West leader.

Barton's 1-0 lead lasted into the home first until an answered two-out solo home run tied things up with the Grizzlies breaking things open behind a nine-run bottom of the second and additional six run fifth.

Barton starter Treto (2-2) was roughed up for eight earned runs in 11/3 innings.

Barton's Hunter Alvord homered and drove in three runs. Ayden Hadley homered. Kyle Graves drove in two runs. Tyler Janssen, John Connors and Landon Haines also drove home runs.

GRIZZLIES 14, COUGARS 10 (G2) — Butler roared to a 10-2 lead and held off Barton's late rally for a 14-10 victory. Rasmussen homered and drove home four runs. Holden Lough, Alex Coaster, Brandt Beeby and Brady Todd each drove in two runs.

In game two, the Cougars benefitted behind one of two Butler errors to draw even at 2-2 in the top of the fourth but an eight-run Grizzlies response off eight hits and key three-run home run 

Barton's Kyle Walker drove home three runs with three hits. John Connors and Tate Blasi drove in runs.

Three Cougar errors helped Butler led 2-0 after three innings.

Barton Cougar Ayden Hadley drilled a grand-slam homer to speak a 14-4 run-rule victory over the Butler Grizzlies. Tate Blasi hammered a 3-run homer and drove home four runs.

The Cougars scored seven runs in the first inning and seven runs in the fifth inning. John Connors singled home Tyler Janssen and Kyle Walker's single scored Connors and Hadley to ignite a 7-run first inning. Blasi's homer scored Walker and Wyatt Yetter.

Hadley's grand slam scored Hunter Alvord, Hector Gomez and Blasi for a 12-4 lead. Walker's single scored Connors. Yetter scored the game-winner on Blasi's single.

Barton pitcher Owen Pote (4-2) earned the victory.

Butler's Lough hit a 3-run homer.
