DODGE CITY — The No. 14 ranked Dodge City women escaped Barton Community College's upset bid 59-57 in Wednesday's Jayhawk Conference basketball game. Tatum Boettjer missed a game-winning 3-pointer and the Cougars committed turnovers on three of their final four tries. The Cougars converted baskets on two of their final 20 offensive possessions.
Vera Ojenuwa contributed 16 rebounds and 13 points for her 14th double/double for a plus 21 on the boards. Vivian Onugha scored 14 points with eight boards. Grace John had 10 points, five assists and three steals.
Dodge City's Parris Atkins scored 12 points and Kyriana Jones added 11. Dodge City converted 9 of 27 3-pointers.
Barton (20-8, 15-7 Jayhawk) plays No. 1 ranked Hutchinson (28-0, 22-0) for Saturday's "Pink-Out Night." The Conquistadors improve to 20-8, 19-4 Jayhawk.
Dodge City built a 39-27 lead before Barton closed within 40-32 at halftime. Dodge City led 53-47 after three quarters.
John's second 3-pointer keyed a 6-1 run pulling Barton back within 54-53. Dodge City scored six free throws in the fourth quarter and the Cougars struggled to convert baskets in the final nine minutes.
Barton leads the series 29-17 at Dodge City, 74-21 overall.
