WICHITA – The 2024 Great Bend Bat Cats have officially hit rock bottom.

The Derby Twins roared to a 21-0 lead en route to a 21-7 victory in Sunday's Jayhawk Collegiate League baseball game. The Bat Cats (17-13, 5-7 Jayhawk) travel to Derby (20-9, 7-3 Jayhawk) for a Tuesday doubleheader.

The Bat Cats launched Home Run Derby after trailing 21-0. Jhett Creel slugged a 3-run homer. Ian George ripped a 2-run homer. Cooper Smith and Kyler Horsman hit home runs.

After Derby scored nine first-inning runs off Carson Sowell (1-1, 8.17 ERA), the nightmare continued with a 12-run third inning for a 21-0 lead.

Derby scored nine first-inning runs on seven hits and two errors. Great Bend's third-inning would've made the Bad News Bears proud in a 12-run Derby inning.

Kade Sheldon doubled three times and drove in five runs. Holden Pantier homered, doubled twice and drove in four runs. Brayden Luikart ripped a 3-run double and drove in four runs.

DIRTBAGS 10, BAT CATS 9 – The slumping Bat Cats set a club record with three blown saves in the same ballgame.

A 1-run lead wasn’t enough. A 2-run lead wasn’t enough the first time or the second time.

The Wichita Dirtbags continued their hex over the Bat Cats with a wild 10-9 victory Friday, rallying for the tying run in three consecutive innings before scoring the 12th-inning game-winner.

Chase Cretti’s 2-run double off reliever Carson Bougher scored Miles Hartman and Mikey Acosta with the tying and winning runs in the 12th inning. The Dirtbags sweep the Bat Cats 4-0 in the season series.

Great Bend led 5-4 after 91/2 innings, 7-5 after 101/2 innings and 9-7 after 111/2 innings, but an ineffective bullpen spoiled the night. The Bat Cats (17-12, 5-6) limp into Derby Sunday and Monday before returning home Tuesday.

Great Bend led 5-5 on Kyler Horsman’s RBI single that scored Garrett Ninness. Anthony Capobianco stopped the rally with a groundball double play. Hartman scored on Parker Ryan’s 10th-inning sacrifice fly for a 5-5 tie.

The Bat Cats and Dirtbags each scored a pair of 11th-inning runs for a 7-7 tie.

Capobianco, who finished with four RBIs, and Joey Marker delivered RBI 12th-inning singles for a 9-7 lead.

Bougher was one out away after Acosta’s fielder’s choice scored Aiden Martinez. But the Dirtbags celebrated after Cretti drilled his game-winning double.

The Bat Cats led 4-0. Ian George scored on Kade Goeke's groundball. Capobianco doubled in Ninness and Cooper Smith. Smith scored on Capobianco's single.

Dirtbag Dan Craig scored on Aiden Martinez's sixth-inning double. DeCarlo Delancy and Martinez delivered RBIs and Martinez scored on a seventh-inning error for a 4-4 tie.
