Fort Hays State used three first half goals to earn a 4-2 victory over Upper Iowa in the round of 16 at the NCAA Division II Soccer Tournament.
FHSU got on the board in the fifth minute of the game as they scored via an own goal by Upper Iowa. UIU would answer and not the game up in the 10th minute as Ryan Pinkerton took a pass from Rhys Williams to score.
Fort Hays State would move back ahead in the 16th minute as Mauricio Castorino took an assist from Maurizio Costa to make it a 2-1 advantage. FHSU would then strike again in the 44th minute with Killian Gorman scoring on a corner kick from Dylan Kintner. They would grab their fourth tally in the 71st minute as Drew Wilson took a pass from Kyle Markovits and David Lucio.
Upper Iowa would cut the lead to two in the 81st minute as Sebastian Smith scored on a Jared Newman pass.
In goal for the Tigers Michael Yantz stopped three shots to pick up the win.
FHSU will now face either Rockhurst or Northwood at 2 p.m. on Nov. 22 from the campus of Rockhurst.
