Brent Moss sparks Cougar men past Coffeyville

Cougars survive once again; still hold 1-game lead in Jayhawk.

No. 13 ranked Barton Community College featured Brent Moss (17), Keandre Kindell (14) and James Parlow, Jr. (11) in double figures in a 75-64 Jayhawk Conference basketball victory over No. 12 ranked Coffeyville Community College.

Reigning KJCCC Player of the Week Moss contributed two assists and two blocks. Kindell matched his career high with nine assists, six rebounds and five steals to help force 23 Red Raven turnovers. The Cougars were plus 12 in points off turnovers.

Coffeyville's Trenton Ruth scored 19 points and Daniel Ntambwe scored 15 points. Leading scorer Brian Griffith was held to two points, 12 below his average.

Barton (14-4, 8-4 Jayhawk) handed previous co-leader Coffeyville to 14-4, 10-2 Jayhawk. The Cougars play at Hutchinson Wednesday.

The Cougars built a 12-point lead 42-30 on Eltramon Smith's slam dunk off Kindell's alley-oop pass. Parlow stretched the lead to 15 points on a 3-pointer. The Cougars stretched the lead to 62-43 on Smith's basket on Kindell's ninth assist.

Coffeyville led early 15-12. Barton swung the momentum by forcing 12 Coffeyville turnovers for a 35-30 halftime lead keyed by an 8-0 scoring burst.

The Barton Cougar softball team swept Colby 8-5 and 10-7 to solidify second place in the Jayhawk League. Barton (23-9, 17-3 Jayhawk) remains two games back of Hutchinson (25-5, 19-1 Jayhawk).
