Sometimes accidents happen

In life, sometimes good things happen that we have no responsibility for and sometimes bad things happen that we also have no responsibility for.
In the 1990s, there was a lawsuit against McDonalds by a woman who spilled a cup of coffee in her lap and was severely burned. Sure the coffee was too hot, but she was the one that spilled the coffee.
In our litigious society, few take responsibility for themselves anymore. That woman spilled the coffee herself, so really it was her fault. An adult should know that coffee in the 1990s was served hot. No one wants to be burned and hopefully she would have learned to be more careful.
McDonalds, realizing that its coffee could cause burns, should have turned down the heat at which the coffee is brewed.
This should have been the end of the story. Instead, the woman won several hundred thousand dollars in damages from a lawsuit.
A similar situation happened on the United Continental Airlines.
According to a Los Angeles Times report, a flight attendant was putting a cup of hot coffee on a woman’s seat back tray when the person in front of her reclined their seat. The coffee spilled and burned her legs.
Undoubtedly, this was extremely unpleasant to have to sit in wet clothes and have burns on her legs.
This accident was caused by the person that reclined the seat who must have been unconscious not to know the beverage cart was right behind their seat.
It was not the airlines fault. Anymore, airline passengers are lucky to be served anything.
As a courtesy, a free airline ticket would have smoothed over hard feelings. Instead, she has filed a lawsuit.
Sometimes bad things happen to good people.
A lawsuit is ridiculous.
