Adopt-A-Dog If affordable for the family

A new program has begun to encourage local families to Adopt-A-Dog. It’s a great program.
The Golden Belt Humane Society does a tremendous job taking care of stray animals.
They pick up dogs and cats that have gotten loose and feed them and keep them warm during these cold, snowy days.
But, they also had to put down 18 dogs on a Friday a couple of weeks ago because they had no more space. It gets worse in the spring when the puppies and kittens are born.
If one can afford it, adopting a dog is a good idea.
They’re always glad to see their human friends.
They provide amusement and entertainment.
Plus, one gets exercise from walking and playing with the animal.
They are also a responsibility and will take about a ten year commitment.
They are not as much responsibility as a child, but they are still a responsibility. Adopting a pet is not to be taken lightly.
The yard will need to be cleaned up.
They will need shots, food, must be spayed or neutered and will need regular veterinary care, all adding to the financial obligation.
But our warm and furry friends all add to quality of life.
Adopt-A-Dog— if you can.
