Wilma Lee Pettijohn

Wilma Lee Pettijohn, 78, passed away Aug. 18, 2024, at her home in Great Bend, Kan. She was born June 22, 1946, to Dilton Cleo “Shorty” Myers and Leeoda Doughty Myers in Great Bend. Wilma married Carl Shryock February 1963, and had three children, Paul Shryock, C.J. Shryock, and Shrya Shryock. They later divorced. She married Jim Pettijohn and added three more children, Judy Gorden, Josh Pettijohn, and Takowa (Pettijohn) Ramirez. 

Wilma was a faithful member of First St. Church of God in Hoisington. She lived in Phoenix, Nashville, Hutchinson, but called Great Bend home. She worked at Fuller Brush, Dolly Madison, True Value, Smokey’s, Wichita Eagle for 29 years and Great Bend Tribune. She loved to ride her motorcycle, crochet, dancing, and creating flower arrangements. 

Survivors include her sons, C.J. Shryock, Josh Pettijohn (Bri Lamb); daughters, Judy Gorden and Takowa (Pettijohn) Ramirez; sisters, Carolyn Casey, Liz Calp, and Elsie Darr; brother, Randy Myers; grandkids, whom she loved very much, Asa Shuey (Amber) of Wichita, Liji Corwin, of Hutchinson, Candace Shyrock and Breono Shyrock of Winfield, Marcus Fisher of Everett, Wash., Kady Bauer of Hutchinson, Justice Manning of Great Bend, Dakota Aumiller and Mathias Aumiller of Great Bend, Abbytt Ramirez of Great Bend, Jacob Ferris, Braiden Pettijohn, Asher “A.J.” Pettijohn, and Christian Green of Great Bend, Ryan Shyrock (Kelsey Ford) and Jonni Weesner of Great Bend; many great grandkids, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Pettijohn; parents; brothers, Don Myers and Jim Myers; son, Paul Shryock; daughter, Shrya (Shryock) Palacio; daughter in law, Jamie Shryock; grandson, Ian Shuey; granddaughter Chelsea Fisher; and nephews Dilton Myers and Clayton Myers; niece, Brenda Myers. 

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Aug. 26, 2024, at Bryant Funeral home with Pastor Dennis Morrison presiding. Interment will follow at Golden Belt Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 25, 2024, at Bryant Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been designated to the Wilma Pettijohn Funeral Expense Fund, in care of Bryant Funeral Home, 1425 Patton Rd., Great Bend, KS 67530.
