Vernon LeRoy Jones

Vernon LeRoy Jones, Jr., 63, passed away Aug. 14, 2024, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kan. He was born on Feb. 16, 1961, in Hoisington, Kan., to Vernon LeRoy Sr. and Edna (Robinson) Jones. Vernon Jr. was married to Pamela Jones; they later divorced. He was then married to Maria Jones; they later divorced.

A long-time area resident, Vernon Jr. enlisted in the United States Navy, making his service a career for over 20 years, reaching the rank of Head Lieutenant of Telecommunications. Aside from being military, he was a member of the First Bible Baptist Church in Hoisington, Kan. Vernon Jr. had an ear for music; he was a terrific musician, starting with playing in a band in high school. He was a jack of all trades, a talented drum player, pool shark, trilingual, amazing cook, and let’s not forget, die hard San Francisco 49ers fan!

He is preceded in death by his father Vernon Leroy Sr.; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Winfred Robinson, Lottie Johnson; sister Theresa (Jones) Carter; and numerous other beloved family members. Survivors include his mother, Edna Jones of Great Bend; son, Vernon LeRoy Jones, III, of Detroit, Mich.; daughter, Daisy Jones and significant other John Houp, of Great Bend; three grandchildren, Keimon, Marianna, and Malaysia Houp; brother, Scott Jones of Valley Center; sisters, Yvonne Jones and Charlotte

Perry and husband Chris, all of Topeka; and a variety of relatives that loved him dearly.

Visitation will take place from noon to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, August 22, 2024, with family receiving guests from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., all at Bryant Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 23, 2024, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Reverend Leroy Keith presiding. Interment will follow at Great Bend Cemetery, with military honors presented by the United States Navy Honor Guard. Memorials have been designated to Vernon Jones, Jr. Expense Fund, in care of Bryant Funeral Home, 1425 Patton Rd., Great Bend, KS, 67530.
