John Raymond Boor

John Raymond Boor, 75, passed away peacefully April 7, 2025, at The University of Kansas Medical Center, Great Bend, Kan. He was born July 3, 1949, in Great Bend, to John and Veronica (Schreiber) Boor, Jr.

John obtained his associate’s degree at Barton County Community College. He enlisted in the Navy in 1967 and proudly served during the Vietnam War and Desert Storm. He was honorably discharged in 2004. John married Judy K. Schmeidler April 8, 1972, in Hoisington. He worked as a letter carrier for the U.S. Post Office for 33 years until he retired. John was a man that was a problem solver. He could fix anything. He never hesitated to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. But above all, he loved spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. 

Survivors include his beloved wife of 53 years, Judy Boor; son, Jeff Boor and his wife Mindy of Shawnee; daughters, Jodie Hess and her husband Kevin of Hutchinson, Jamie Miller and her husband Doug of Olathe; sisters, Ronnie Lou Drees of Manhattan, Rose Cantrell and her husband John of Lawrence, and Carolyn Hall and her husband John of Lenexa; grandchildren, Austin Hess and his wife Grace, Aaron Hess and his wife Sydney, Jack Miller, Kate Miller, Charley Boor, John Boor, Henry Boor, and Jeffrey Boor, Jr. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 12, 2025, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Great Bend with Father Aneesh presiding. Interment will follow at Great Bend Cemetery with Navy Honor Guard Honors. Visitation will take place from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, April 11, 2025, at Bryant Funeral Home, with family receiving friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., and a service of Memory Sharing at 5:30 p.m. Memorials have been designated to Disabled American Veterans, in care of Bryant Funeral Home, 1425 Patton Road, Great Bend, KS.
