Roy Glenden Daum

LARNED — Roy Glenden Daum passed from this life on  March 14, 2025, at home with his beloved wife, LuAnn. Roy was born in Cannelton, Ind., on Sept. 9, 1942 to Roy Edward and Juanita Jackson Daum. At the age of 14, he was converted to Catholicism and began attending Catholic High School. After graduation, he joined the Benediction Monastery in St. Miner’s, Indiana. After five years of Seminary Formulation, he became a Monk, obtaining a Master’s degree in Divinity and Philosophy. He was fluent in the Latin and Greek languages. Roy then transferred to Rome, Italy, where he resided with other monks near the Vatican. He later left the secularized life. Roy’s careers were varied and fulfilling. He was a police officer for several years, obtained Doctoral Degrees in both Education and Clinical Psychology, worked in school administration, as well as teaching at the high school and college levels. He drove an over-the-road semi for Stevens Trucking, belonged to motorcycle clubs, enjoyed working with stained glass and loved hydroponic gardening in his greenhouse. Roy worked at Larned State Hospital as a Clinical Psychologist and Forensic Evaluator until his death. He enjoyed his work immensely and often shared that if he could choose, he would never retire.

Roy served others with a joyful heart and was a great example to those around him. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and loved helping people. He followed Christ’s admonition, “If ye have done it unto one of the least of these...ye have done it unto me.”

He is survived by his spouse, LuAnn, Larned; her two children, Robbie (Scott) Stephens, and Rees (Becky) Watson, and four grandchildren; his two adored doggy boys, Bentley and Winston, as well as one brother, Ed Daum, of Florida.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, March 22, 10 a.m., at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 5851 Eisenhower Ave., Great Bend, Kan. with Bishop Joshua Boone presiding. Memorials may be given to the Welcome Inn Senior Center or the Golden Belt Home Health and Hospice, both in care of Beckith Mortuary, P.O. Box 477, Larned, Kansas 67550.
