Ronald Eugene Rohr, 80, died Friday, Feb. 24, 2023, at the University of Kansas Health System in Great Bend, Kan. He was born Aug. 23, 1942, in Ness City, Kan., the son of Fred “Tony” and Helen (Stecklein) Rohr.
Ronald grew up and lived with his family in Ness City till the age of 12 when they moved to Great Bend, Kan. He served in the United States Navy from 1949 to 1953. After the service, Ronald worked at CKMC as a boiler room operator. He later worked at the Larned State Hospital as a supervisor of the plumbing department until his retirement. Ron was a member of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Great Bend and enjoyed his time woodworking and fixing things.
In 1974, he married Patricia Ann Rupp Hembree in Ness City, Kan. She survives. Other survivors include two sons Frank and wife Shawnda Hembree of Holcomb, Kan. and Bill and wife Jodi Hembree of Newalla, Okla.; eight grandchildren Rachelle, Samantha, Billy, Tommy, Brice, Colyn, Kirstyn, and Taitlyn; five great-grandchildren; a brother George Rohr of Mountain Home, Ark.; three nieces; and one nephew. Ron is preceded in death by his parents and a son Mitchell Rohr.
A Rosary will be held at 1:30 p.m. and Funeral Mass to follow at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 3, 2023, at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Garden City with Rev. Warren Stecklein as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City with military graveside rites conducted by the United States Navy Honor Guard. Friends may call from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. The family suggests memorials given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in care of the funeral home.
