Nancy Kathryn Baxter

Nancy Kathryn Baxter, 67, passed away on June 11, 2023, at University of Kansas Health Systems ER – Great Bend Campus, Great Bend, Kan. She was born on Nov. 30, 1955, in Great Bend, Kan., to Hiram Joseph Jr. and Patricia Ida Mae (Younkin) Baxter. 

A lifetime resident of Great Bend, during her working years, Nancy was the accompanist for Great Bend High School Choir groups. She was also a well-known accompanist outside of the school district in different groups, churches, and even socially. Nancy was a member of Encounter Church, graduating from the Women of Valor Discipleship Program, and later became a mentor of ladies in the program, and the Worship Band. She was a former member of First United Methodist Church, Chapter HR-PEO, and Job’s Daughters. Nancy was a passionate University of Kansas fan, loved cooking and spending time with her dogs, and above all, cherished spending time with her family, stepping into the matriarch role and being the favorite aunt to her nieces and nephews she referred to as “her kids.”

Survivors include three brothers, Jeffrey Baxter and wife Connie, of Leavenworth, Charles Baxter and wife Karen, of Basehor, Alan Baxter of Great Bend; a sister, Lori Underwood and husband Jeff, of Lawrence; “her kids”, Dustin Baxter and wife Sarah, Tara Talley and husband Trent, Olivia Natelli and husband Kenny, David Baxter, Jonathan Baxter, Lindsay Baxter, Megan Berger and husband Chris, Patrick Underwood and wife Makenna, Kelly Blackburn and husband Logan, Chelsea Fincham and husband Brandon, Robert Underwood, AnnaLeesha Huddleston and husband Cody, and Addison Baxter and wife Kelsie; and great nieces and nephews, Arthur Baxter, Hunter Talley, Wyatt Talley, Avery Talley, Magdelyn Talley, Aurora Natelli, Nova Natelli, Audrey Underwood, Landon Berger, Matthew Berger, Owen Blackburn, Lucy Blackburn, Charlotte Fincham, Charley Rose Huddleston, Kason Baxter, Kouper Baxter, and one on the way. She is preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will take place at noon to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, with family receiving guests from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Bryant Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on June 21, 2023, at Encounter Church, with Pastor Dwight Dozier presiding. Interment will follow at Great Bend Cemetery. Memorials have been designated to Encounter Church Women of Valor Discipleship Program, in care of Bryant Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent and notice viewed at www.bryantfh.net
