June Miller

CLAFLIN — June Miller, 93, died Dec. 26, 2023, at Credo Senior Living, Hoisington, Kan. Fairy June Seymour was born June 1, 1930, in Leavenworth, Kan., the daughter of Carl L. and Lillian E. (Wolf) Seymour. June was raised in Tonganoxie, Kan., where she was known for her musical abilities, playing the piano and singing for many occasions.

She graduated from Tonganoxie High School in 1948 and then attended the University of Kansas, where she met the love of her life, Robert J. “Bobby Joe” Miller. They were married later that year on Aug. 26, 1950, in Tonganoxie and lived in Kansas City. Shortly after they moved back to Claflin to raise their family and where they continued the family furniture business, Miller’s of Claflin. A homemaker and mother to 10, June was truly a busy mother. Running a household of that size meant being organized and practical but come the weekend there was always time to pack up a truckload of kids, including many of the kids’ neighborhood friends, and head to the lake. June always had room and food for everyone.

June was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and Altar Society. She was a former member of the Daughters of Isabella and was also a Girl Scout and Cub Scout Leader for many years. She held numerous leadership roles in the community and was known to help wherever was needed. She enjoyed years helping to teach pre-school where her grandchildren attended, and many others then came to know her as Grandma June or GG. She loved her family and the bustle and noise of their large gatherings, yet still made you feel as if you had her undivided attention. She was known to have a sweet tooth and enjoyed trips to get a bite, especially KFC and DQ, or her unusual drink concoctions from Sonic.

She will be dearly missed by her nine children, Becky Cates of Haslet, Texas; Beth Woydziak of Morrison, Colo., Belinda Connell of Claflin, Barbara Musgrove and husband Jim of Claflin, Brad Miller and wife Cathy of Claflin, Brian Miller and wife Joan of Claflin, Brock Miller and wife Angie of Eudora, Bobette Kirmer and husband Marvin of Claflin, and Bridget Letourneau and husband Troy of Claflin; daughter-in-law, Tami Miller of Claflin; 36 grandchildren; 78 great-grandchildren; and five great great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Bernie Spradling of El Dorado. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. Miller; a son, Bill Miller; brother, Bill Seymour; three sons-in-law, Mike Connell, Alan Woydziak, and Ray Cates; and a grandson, Travis Cates.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home. Family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday, with Vigil and Rosary to begin at 7 p.m., all at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Claflin, Kan.
