John Lewis Schreiber

John Lewis Schreiber, 93, passed away at his home, Oct. 15, 2024, in Great Bend, Kan. He was born July 19, 1931, to Raymond and Bessie (Evans) Schreiber in Lyons. 

John was a Great Bend High School class of 1950 graduate. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1951,proudly serving in the Korean Conflict, Naval Air station in Corpus Christi, Texas and Hutchinson, Kan., USS George Clymer, APA 27, and the USS Horace A. Bass, APD 124. He was honorably discharged in 1954 and was a proud veteran. Upon returning home, he married Reta Fischer on Nov. 14, 1954, in Great Bend. He began working as a field salesman for Midland Pipe and Supply, store manager for Sooner Pipe and Supply, purchasing manager for Marlette Mobile Homes, and retired from McDonald Tank and Equipment as Vice President in 1998.

John was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church, UR Welcome Sunday School Class, American Legion Argonne Post #180, Golden Belt Community Concert Association, and a former member of the Golden Belt Woodcarvers.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Reta, of 69 years; two daughters, Dennis Kay Moore of Spring, Texas, Jana Lee Cavanaugh and her husband Dan of Peosta, Iowa; sister, Donna Davis of Weatherford, Okla.; grandson, Jeremy Moore of Lincoln, Neb.; granddaughters, Emily Zaleski and her husband Daniel of Woodlands, Texas and Leah Cavanaugh of Dubuque, Iowa; five great grandchildren, Kendra Moore, Caleb Moore, Reis Zaleski, Fischer Zaleski and Tanner Zaleski; and four great great grandchildren, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews; and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by brothers, Gary Schreiber and Dennis Schreiber; son in law, Thane Moore, and brother-in-law, Wayne Davis.

Visitation will be held from noon to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 21, 2024, with family receiving from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Bryant Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at First United Methodist Church with Pastor Dianna Webster presiding. Interment will follow at Great Bend Cemetery with military honors conducted by United States Navy Honor Guard.
