ST. JOHN — Jeanette “Jan” Huffman Parten passed away at Dugan Care Home in West Point, Miss., on Dec. 22, 2022, at the age of 91. She was born March 6, 1931, at Virgil, Kan. to the late Edgar J. and Bernice (Hughes) Huffman.

She married Kenneth Neil Parten Sept. 14, 1952, in St John, Kan., they were married for 64 years until Kenneth’s death in 2016. As a team they were very innovative and creative, both were raised in poverty which gave them a heart to help many less fortunate.

Jan graduated Hoisington High School and Fort Hays State University with a teaching certificate. She taught in a one room schoolhouse for several years before becoming a mother and full-time home maker.

Jan was a very active leader in the Girl Scouts, she served on the local election board for many years and on the St. John Recreation Commission.  Jan was always very competitive, with a passion for both playing and watching sports. She loved to drive her car and was quite often found exploring something new, and ready to have a good time. Jan was a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ and attended First Southern Baptist Church in St. John, Kan.

She is survived by the following, daughter, Kimberly Sallee (Jim) of West Point, Miss.; brother, Harold Huffman of Pratt, Kan.; grandchildren, Mandy McMurdo (Brian) of Kimberling City, Mo, Tyson Parten (Kris) of Lampe, Mo, Laural Brazil (Scott) of Auxvasse, Mo, Nichole Rohn (Thomas) of Fulton, Mo; and 11 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, William “Bill” Parten; brothers Charles Huffman, and Warren Huffman, and a very special friend Nancy K. Ginest.

A celebration of life will be held at a future date. Memorials may be made to First Southern Baptist Church 107 W 2nd Ave St John, KS 67576.
