Janet Sue (Jan) Flint

Janet Sue (Jan) Flint, 84, passed away Sept. 11, 2024, at Medicalodges, Great Bend, Kan.  She was born May 3, 1940, in Ellis, Kan., to Dale E. Carr, Sr. and Grace E. (Mickelson) Carr-Crist.  In 1963, she married Allen Ukens in Great Bend, and divorced in 1987.  She married Hartwell “Tony” Flint in 1991, and they divorced in 1993.

She was raised by her mother and stepfather, Walt Crist.  She attended Great Bend High School.  A resident of Great Bend, Jan worked at Fuller Brush, and as a lab courier for Central Kansas Medical Center.  A true entrepreneur, Jan owned and managed the North Main Mobile Park, which later became the Cottonwood Grove R.V. Park in Great Bend for over 33 years.  Through her working years, she learned to be very independent, often being found maintaining the R.V. Park grounds.  Jan was passionate patriot, a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Fraternal Order of Eagles.  She enjoyed rock and plant landscaping, bowling, R.V. traveling, driving cool cars, and collecting carousel horses, Elvis figurines, “all things” brass and angels.  Above all, Jan enjoyed spending time with family, often being referred to as the “life of the party” and the grandkids’ buddy.   

Survivors include two children, Dan Ukens and wife Colette of Ellinwood, Kan.; daughter, Cathie McManaman and husband Barry of Great Bend; five grandchildren, Stacie Resner and husband Matt of Ellinwood, Lexie Ukens of Ellinwood, Dena Hiss and husband Matt of Great Bend, Brett McManaman and wife Brittany of League City, Texas, Kelli McManaman of Kansas City, Mo.; six great grandchildren, Will and Noah Resner, Gage Ukens, Graham, Ethan and Owen Hiss; three sisters, Gloria Calloway and husband Scott of Pratt, Kan., Tonya Appel of Manhattan, Kay Gilkey of Hutchinson, Kan.; and one brother, Ed Crist and wife Rayetta of Great Bend.  She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Dale E. Carr, Jr., John W. Carr; and one sister and lifelong best friend, Sandy L. Newkirk.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place.  Graveside services will be 10:30, Monday, Sept. 16, 2024, at Pawnee Rock Cemetery, Pawnee Rock, Kan., with Rev. Jay Welshonse presiding.  Memorials may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church, in care of Bryant Funeral Home, 1425 Patton Rd. , Great Bend, KS  67530.
