James Lee ‘Jim’ Canfield

James Lee ‘Jim’ Canfield, 89, passed away Jan. 10, 2025, at Medicalodges Great Bend, Kan. He was born April 20, 1935, in Great Bend, to James “Luther” and Agnes (Nichols) Canfield. On Aug. 13, 1960, he married Leona M. Wondra in Great Bend. 

A lifetime resident of Great Bend, Jim worked as a mechanic. He proudly served his country for six years in the United States Army Reserves. Jim was a member of the Ellinwood Community Church. He had a passion for skeet and trap shooting, plus teaching children the skills of sport shooting. Jim enjoyed playing pool, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife of the home; son, Scott Canfield and wife Julie of Wichita; two daughters, Sandra Branham of Great Bend, and Marla Canfield and husband Craig Schulte of Andover; four grandchildren, Derek Branham of Kansas City, Cody Branham and wife Crosby of Wichita; Hallee Jones and husband Bailey of Derby and A.J. Canfield and wife Aleyna of Newton; and three great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Nadine Schartz.

Visitation will be open 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2025, at Bryant Funeral Home. A private family service will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been designated to the Golden Belt Humane Society or Ellinwood Community Church, in care of Bryant Funeral Home, 1425 Patton Rd., Great Bend, KS 67530.
