Charlotte Janice Schmidt, 95, passed away on Jan. 22, 2025, surrounded by family at River Bend Assisted Living, Great Bend, Kan. She was born on Jan. 23, 1929, in Pawnee Rock, Kan., to Ellis and Mabel (Bowman) Flick. In March 1948, Janice married Earl Schmidt in Pawnee Rock. He passed on Aug. 16, 2024.

A lifetime area resident, Janice was a homemaker. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, as well as the Pawnee Rock Lions Club. Janice enjoyed sewing, quilting and spending time with family and friends. She took great joy in her cups of coffee with her Wednesday morning coffee group and her many Saturday morning breakfasts at the Depot. 

Survivors include two sons, Michael Schmidt and wife Janet of Cornelius, Ore., and Dennis Schmidt and wife Terrie of Cape Coral, Fla.; daughter Brenda Girard of Hays; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband of 76 years; her parents; and siblings, including a twin sister, Joan Rainbolt.

A private graveside service will take place. Memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. Memorials have been designated to Pawnee Rock Depot or First United Methodist Church, in care of Bryant Funeral Home, 1425 Patton Rd., Great Bend, KS 67530.
