ELLINWOOD — Barton Leon Hoar, 76, passed away at Ellinwood District Hospital on Nov. 3rd, 2019 in Ellinwood. Born in Boulder, CO on Nov. 25th, 1942 he was the son of Kenneth W. & Rena Jeannette (Richards) Hoar.  He married Barbara Hoar on May 7th, 1961 in Ellinwood, KS. She passed away May 17th, 2016. Barton was a retired Air Force MSGT entering into service in 1961 and retiring in 1983. Barton was a 30 year resident of Ellinwood formerly of Great Bend. Memberships include Ellinwood Lyons Club & Kairos prison ministries.       

Survivors include daughters, Crystal Worm (John), Wichita, KS, Cheryl Sciandra, Denver, CO, Brenda McCulley (Karl), Great Bend, KS, Diane McReynolds, Ellinwood, KS; son, Darryl Hoar (Karen), Osborne, KS; brother, Jack Hoar, Rapid City, SD; brother-in-law, Ron Koch, Great Bend, KS; sister-in-laws, Gloria Roberts (Richard) Hutchinson, KS, Twila Bartels (Tom), Olathe, KS. Other survivors include 11 dearly loved grandchildren & 1 great-grandchild.  

Funeral service will be Thurs. Nov. 7th, 1:00 PM at Grace Community Church in Great Bend, KS with Rev. Gordon Rhodes officiating. Burial will follow at Lakin-Comanche District Cemetery in Ellinwood, KS. Visitation will be Wed., Nov. 6th, 1-8 with family present from 6-8 at Minnis Chapel in Ellinwood, KS. Memorials are suggested to the Ellinwood Hospital Foundation in care of Minnis Chapel, PO Box 246, Ellinwood, KS 67526.

Michael Douglas ‘Tiny’ Berscheidt

Michael Douglas “Tiny” Berscheidt, 60, of Great Bend, Kan., passed away on March 28, 2025, at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City. Michael was born on April 1, 1964, in Great Bend, to Paul and Trella (Scheuerman) Berscheidt. He married Coleen Wilhelm, Aug. 1, 1987, in Great Bend. This union was blessed with four sons, Craig, Aaron, Jason and Blake.

During his Great Bend High School years, Michael worked for Reed Testing, at a questionable age. following high school, he worked for Alve Axman’s farming operation, Dean Smith Trucking, Burdett, Kan., then moved on to Allen Drilling, Cenex Transportation and McClaskey Oilfield transportation. At that time he moved to Ottawa, Kan., and began driving for Walmart Transportation. Michael enjoyed the outdoors, particularly camping, hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed cooking up some spectacular barbeque recipes, and more recently, spending time with his granddaughter. He had just recently returned to Great Bend.

He is survived by his father, Paul Berscheidt of Great Bend; sister, Kimberly Schenk and husband Greg of Great Bend; Coleen Wilhelm of Great Bend; sons, Craig and fiancé Anne of Kansas City, Aaron and wife Kayla of Spring Hill, Jason and wife Liz of Gardner and Blake of Lawrence. Also surviving is granddaughter, Ella and two fur babies, Zoey and Bear. Michael was preceded in passing by his mother, Trella; grandparents, Glenn and Hazel Scheuerman and Fredrick and Pauline Berscheidt. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday April 3, 2025, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Great Bend, with interment to follow at the Bison Baptist Cemetery, Bison. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday April 2, 2025, at Bryant Funeral Home, with family greeting from 6 to 7 p.m. and Vigil and Rosary at 7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Funeral Expense Fund or the Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund, in care of Bryant Funeral Home, 1425 Patton Rd., Great Bend, KS  67530.
