Barbara “Jodi” Jo Bybee, 79, passed away on Feb. 21, 2022, at her home in Great Bend, Kan. She was born on Aug. 4, 1942, in Sterling, Kan., to William and Helen (Morehouse) Bybee. William passed away early in her life, and her stepfather, James Kooistra, raised her as his own. Barbara was married to Thomas Ford in Hutchison, Kan. on Dec. 10, 1962. He passed on Aug. 21, 1996.
Jodi graduated from Sterling High School. She spent time in Mesa, Ariz., where she owned Jodi’s Paintings for 13 years and was a member of the VFW and American Legion. Upon moving to Great Bend, Jodi worked in housekeeping for Cherry Village and at the Barton County Sheriff’s offices. She was active in rodeos, benefits, and loved dedicating time to being a Senior Companion, winning many awards for her service.
Survivors include two daughters, Tamara (Greg) Howell of Lancaster, Calif., and Melissa (Russell) Broughman of Wichita, Kan. Tamara has three children, Angela (Chad) Adam, Alan (Heather) Howell, and Amara Howell; and three grandchildren, Paislie, Taylor, and Clyde, all of Lancaster, Calif. Melissa has four children, Tyler Brough, Taryn Brough, Blayze Broughman, and Kadyn Broughman all of Wichita, Kan. She is preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Charles.
There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held at a later date. Memorials can be made to the Barbara Bybee Memorial Fund, in care of Bryant Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent and notice viewed at www.bryantfh.net.
