Ambrose John Wondra

ODIN — Ambrose John Wondra, 85, died Nov, 9, 2022, at The Atriums Senior Living, Overland Park, Kan. He was born on June 19, 1937, on the family farm in Odin, Kan., the son of Alfred V. and Regina Rose (Kirmer) Wondra. Ambrose graduated from Odin High School in 1955 and then served in the Army National Guard.

On Aug. 21, 1971, he married Margie Lynn Miller in Great Bend, Kan. She preceded him in death on Dec. 22, 2011.

Ambrose farmed in the Odin area and worked at the flour mill in Claflin. He would also roughneck in the oil field during the winter. A longtime Odin resident, he moved to Country Place Senior Living in Hoisington, but was still often found tinkering at the farm in Odin. He recently moved to Overland Park to be closer to his family. He was a devoted member of the Holy Family Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, both of Odin.  Ambrose was a member of a bowling league in his younger years and always enjoyed watching the Kansas sports teams whether it was the Royals, Chiefs, K-State or KU. He especially loved attending his children’s sports and later his grandchildren’s sporting events.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Leo and Jerome Wondra; and a sister, Ann Oberle.
